A Haiku About Coffee

My black coffee drink
Bitter? Sweet? Or bittersweet?
Who cares? More coffee!

Scrooging

It's Christmas
No poem today
I really mean this
There's a cheesy parade
Why wouldn't I want to stay?
My family's here for judgement day
By that, I mean to judge me all day
So excuse today's mediocrity
If the sarcasm didn't bleed through the page

Totally Worth It

These cold nights alone
A presence both missed and loathed
Warmth in the freedom

Empty Bed

An empty bed
A sordid, deformed sanctuary
Prime real estate for renewal

Ambient Winds

The ambient wind
Both deafening and silent
Slashing the still air

Dear Ego, Just Lie Down and DIe Already

Why must I burn?
Why must I despise contentment
A cold blanket
So I can shiver while it's warm
Though all signs point
To lesser places
My heart chases dreams of Paris
Pure arrogance!
Screams my mind and therapists
Endless assault
On my ego and pretensions
Why hasn't it discouraged me?
Why haven't I lied down to bleed?
When will maturity
Chop out my knees
And send me crashing away
From the greatness for which I scream?

Suburban Sufferers

In the day we writhe
Dying in the broad life-light
Darkness is our home

Seriously, Let's Destroy The Internet

Old photos are painful
Memories and latent regrets
But what makes me wrathful
Is that we haven't found a way
To end the internet
And the painful past it protects

Why Drunken Driving Is Still A Problem

Sobriety's chore
Cautiously watching the reckless
Wanton foolishness
Ego's groping for drunken lore
Pain
Pleasure seeking
Lover's seething
Lust to be tamed
Perspective's to frame
Paths to consider
Shitty food

A Coffin Clock

Sweet cake frosted sour
Death's compassionate cruelty
From whom I'm borne
Whom I'll forlornly watch die
The deathly divide

Slaughter Rule

I wrote this during an NBA play off game.  Seeing as how awful the NBA is right now, it's not a surprise this got rejected.

An unconquerable lead
A fox's kill unburied

A Life On Layaway

This poem is the first in a 3-part series of rejected poems.  And in all honesty, they aren't that great.  But as the rejection letter said, all taste is subjective.

Purpose's Pleasures perpetually dodging
Clawing to escape the horrendously blasé
It's just over the counter
It's just one jump away
The one yard line dreamer
Is one you don't ask to play

Reservation left unfilled
A life on layaway

I Quit Smoking Recently And Titles Are An Unfortunate Casualty

Yellow fingers screaming for a deeper tint
A friend of diluted time
How to replace seven minutes of the hour
I used to spend outside

A Haiku About Summer

The sun's heavy heat
Sweating black clothe in white light
A child's ecstasy

Yeah, I couldn't think of a better title. I'm sorry

Teenagers

This is a haiku about teenagers.  I originally wrote it with the first and third line reversed.  But when I showed my cousin Tammi, she suggested switching the lines.  So this a haiku by Tammi and I about teenagers.

A misguided path
Young minds screaming to be old
Fickle, foolish things

The Sol of Man

On me
On you
On us
Our flight towards the sun
Free from wax wings
The sweetest song sung

Apollo And Bacchus

Drunk on Apollo's clarity

A test for hollow friendship

Will the disparity

Conflict with Bacchus

Whom I followed

Of Love's Liberating Warmth

Infatuation faded
Damnation avoidance
By my heart's sol
Hesitation no more

Re-Runs

I wrote this thinking about [adult swim].  Because I've seen every American Dad and Family Guy episode at least 20 times.  To be fair to [adult swim], I have been watching them since I was 12 in 2002.

A re-run
The tired husband's predictable routine
A fizzing white noise
A poiseless king
Can't they let sleeping shows lie?

Springtime Heralds

Chirps echo on bark
Life blossoming in dead trees
Breaking Winter's Deaf

The Indoorsman

Lacking the daisy's call
In my bed, I fell lazily
Blinded only by the ceiling-fan sun
Bland, sweet, invisible sweat
The indoorsman
Shall retreat
Forever
Inside

Read My Poetry On Another Site!

I have a poem published on The Social Poet.  Hilariously, I am the least social author on the site.

You can read "The Break-Up Mask" here.  It was published a few days ago, but I procrastinated.

Child Soldiers

Child Soldiers
Would they be better off
As School Prisoners?

A soldier's death can be fought
And conquered, at least humanely expected
Madman's fury, however, cannot

Ambi-blonde

This is to all the weird shades of brown/blonde/red that women like to dye their hair these days.

Just a little haiku.

Ambiguous Blonde
Blatant lies or subtle truth
Hair-dye mysteries

Con-Science

Straight line conscience
Horrible nonsense
It is a plane extending infinitely
With destinations of infinite sublimity

A Poet's Sword

I'm a pretty big fan of jidaigeki.  Which is codeword for I like Akira Kurosawa films.  I like Hideo Gosha and Sword of Doom too.

Interestingly, this is a poem about a Japanese samurai proverb (I guess?) that isn't in haiku.  Which would have been an appropriate choice.

Pen & Sword
In Accord
The stained poems of warlords
Sowing profound dischord
Beautiful Words
Atrocious Death
A poet's sword?

Will you quiver knowing your death will be recounted in meter?
A trophy of history's leaders?
Shamed for sub-par swordplay
Casualty to literary mainstay
Knowing this, will your blade delay?
Or accelerate?
For salvation

The Morning Mental Haze

This is a poem about how I felt after smoking a lot of pot before falling asleep and going to math class the next morning.

Unlike previous poems, this is not a haiku nor is it related to math in anyway.

Drugged to bed
Drug from it
A cloudy morning dew

Nifty Homework Fun!

My teacher actually said that phrase.  I'm sure he was being sarcastic.

But I'm a dick and wrote a haiku about it.

Plus, it's nice to have a continuing theme.

Nifty homework fun!
An accurate misnomer
For myMathlab's game

Take that math teacher!

Math Class Haikus

He was going over linear inequalities.  It was a review and was dreadfully boring.

Plus, they make for a good first post.

Early morning math
Warm sheets for cold equations
A horrible trade

Find rise over run
Old ideas taught anew
How bored the teacher

Linear problems
Twisted logic on straight lines
A teacher's failure

In intercept form
Right answers are found out wrong
Try your standard form!
